What are your prices like, and what can I expect if I book a maternity/newborn/children/family session?

The portrait session fee is $99. The newborn session fee is $149. Extended family sessions will be quoted on an individual basis, please contact me to discuss the details. Generally most family sessions similar to those you see on my blog are about 1 hour in length. Newborn sessions often require more time, so you should try not to make plans within 3-4 hours of your session start time to ensure we capture the images needed. Consultations are available prior to booking if you’d like discuss your options for backdrops and props, and view samples of the products offered.

We know life can be hectic, and we want to get your finished photographs and albums into your hands as soon as possible, so you’re not coming in for baby’s first year session saying, “You know, we still haven’t had a chance to sit down and choose enlargements from his newborn session!” We will set a time when your images will be available for viewing at the studio approximately 2 weeks after the session. At this time we’ll help you decide how to present your images, whether you choose one of our collections, or design your own. Your order will also need to be paid in full at this time. Payment plans are available if needed. High resolution files are also available for purchase if you wish to print your own images, up to 8×10 in size.

Recommendations

Newborn: Accessories and props such as hats, blankets, and favourite toys, or items that have special meaning can make great additions to the images. This can also include items from the nursery if you want to coordinate the images to match. I have a selection of hats, headbands and other items to incorporate into your images as well. We often photograph babies in their birthday suits as well. If this is the look you’re after, baby should be wearing minimal, loose-fitting clothing prior to the session. Wrap blankets around them in their car seat if it is cold, and keep the diaper loose to prevent diaper lines on your baby’s skin. Make sure you’re prepared with a pacifier, extra food, and extra diapers. The studio has extra blankets on hand, and baby wipes. There is also a microwave available for heating bottles if needed. I recommend that the parents also wear or bring long-sleeve black shirts (preferably without logos, zippers, buttons, etc.) so that we can capture some of the creative images you see in the samples on the black backdrop. We often take breaks for feeding and calming baby, and these sessions can last 2-3 hours or more, so a snack for mom and dad is always a good idea as well ;)

Babies and Children: Have a couple of outfits ready, whatever your favourites are! Feel free to bring your child’s favourite items to include in the session, or calm them in between photos. A non-messy snack is also a great idea to have on hand.

Cake Smash: Most often cake smashes are done with the child in just a diaper, but feel free to bring anything else you might want to dress them in (tutu for girls, tie for boys, etc.) just know that it will likely get covered in cake and icing. Feel free to bring balloons or other props to add to the set. There is an over-sized sink which makes for easy clean up of your child afterward, hand cloths and towels are provided.

Family: Match your clothing to your chosen backdrop. If your session is taking place in the park, you might want keep your look casual and simple. If your photos are being done in your formal living room, you might want to dress up a bit more. It’s best to avoid logos and distracting patterns. Coordinate everyone to compliment each other. This can mean matching (all in jeans and black t-shirts), but it’s most common to choose varying shades that work well together rather than being too matchy-matchy. If there are young children involved it often works best to choose their outfits first, and base mom and dad’s outfits off that. Accessories and props that are meaningful to your family can be fun too, feel free to bring anything you might want to incorporate.
