A Piano Desk and a Baby

I should really resolve to be on time. For life. I always feel like I’m playing catch up, but I’ve been that way for 30 years now, so it’s difficult to break it. I always envy those that say they are early for everything. They must feel so prepared and organized! However, of all the problems to have, this is one that definitely should be manageable. I DO have control over my own actions, I just need to start acting sooner! Banishing my snooze button would be a good start…

On “the Youtube”

Anyway, what I really wanted to share with you is the excitement we had over the holidays this year! Many of you have seen the video by now I am sure, and some may even know the story behind it, but Ryan (my common-law husband) got his 15 minutes of fame at the end of 2011.

What started out as a weekly laugh amongst friends became a worldwide sensation and has changed the way many people will view Don Cherry forever. That’s right, I am talking about Don Cherry’s Piano Desk.

From a goal of “a couple thousand hits” to now over 1 million views, this piano desk ruled our lives for a couple of weeks. Ryan stumbled upon viral video success, and was suddenly receiving interview requests from some pretty big name publications and broadcasts. There were many blogs and articles written about it, but here are a couple that he spoke with directly:

Yahoo Sports
The Toronto Star

And then to top it all off, Ron McLean and Don Cherry mentioned Ryan’s name and played clips from the video on Coach’s Corner on December 31st! How insane is that??!! You should have heard everyone’s phones all beeping and ringing at the same time as we watched it with our friends on New Year’s Eve. Unbelievable. Check it out below:

New Baby in the Family!

In other news, Ryan and I became a first-time Uncle and Auntie on January 5th! Ryan’s sister had a perfect little baby girl named Hartlee, and I am just in love with her. I am so excited to watch her grow and learn and of course, I am especially excited about the photo ops! As I stated on Facebook after she was born, it’s amazing how one tiny little being can fill your heart with so much love and joy, just simply by existing. It’s fascinating how we can be entertained staring at her for hours, just watching her breathe, blink, and smile. She is probably the most smiley baby I have ever seen! I will do a full post with the official newborn session soon, but for now here’s a quick Instagram snap that is currently on my lock screen:

Isn’t she a doll? I can’t get enough of her little face :)

Christmas Sessions | Oshawa Studio Photography

Thank you so much to those that joined me for a Christmas session this year! We had so much fun here in the studio, I just love seeing the kids’ reactions to the giant ornaments, or how they lovingly admire the Christmas tree (or try to eat it!)

As you know, the $25 session fees were donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. This is the second year we have done this, and it’s a tradition I hope to continue, although I was wondering if we should support a different charity each year? If you have a favourite charity you’d like us to support next year, please leave it in the comments section below.

Now let’s get on to the fun stuff – the photos!

PS – There will be a HUGE sale coming up in January for anyone that has ever had a session with me! Watch for it here, and on my Facebook page :)

Baby Teddy | Oshawa Newborn Photography

Baby Theodore came into this world a little earlier than expected, I’m pretty sure he is the tiniest baby I’ve had in the studio so far. I couldn’t believe how big all my hats were on this little guy! Despite sleeping the entire time, he was very squirmy! Arms and legs were kicking out constantly, but those teeny tiny fingers and toes are just so darn cute :)

Heidi + Kyle | Oshawa Golf and Curling Club

Heidi found me through a random search when she noticed that I had recently photographed a wedding at Kingsview United Church in Oshawa – where she and Kyle planned to tie the knot. Well, I am so glad she did – what a gorgeous day! Every bride should be so lucky to have such beautiful weather, it was just perfect! This was my first experience photographing at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club, where we went for photos and their reception. The grounds are stunning, so many mature trees and great views. I definitely hope I get to work there again soon!

Heidi and Kyle were fantastic to work with, besides a request for a big family photo they basically told me to work my magic. I hope they love their images as much as I do :)
