Did you know that maternity gown rental was a thing??

I love when my clients wear items from their own wardrobe, or purchase something special for their maternity session. However, you may be wondering where everyone gets these beautiful gowns you sometimes see in maternity photos? Some with long flowing trains, some with tulle skirts, some lacy or jumping on trends like the boho theme that is so popular right now – and rightfully so – it’s gorgeous!

I have a few options available in my studio that clients are welcome to use, but if you want the best selection, consider renting a dress from a shop that specializes in this area. New gown rental options are popping up all the time, and for good reason!

Why Rent Your Maternity Dress?

1. Save money! These couture gowns can cost hundreds of dollars or more, and how likely are you to wear it again, or be able to resell it at nearly the same price? They ship it to you, you wear it for your session and ship it back. Some also offer local pickup if you live in the same area. They usually also take care of the cleaning so you don’t need to worry about anything! Plus if you’re like me, I’m all for having things magically arrive at my door so I don’t have to go out ;)
   
2. Choice of styles
   Gown rental services offer many different styles, and often stock options that fit a variety of sizes. Check out the photos on their website and make sure you are seeing the dresses on real bodies so you can better envision how it will look in real life. Read the descriptions and reviews if they have them, as this can give you a good idea of fit too. This is important when you aren’t able to try on the dress prior to ordering. Check their policy on dresses that don’t fit, just in case you do run into this scenario. A reputable shop will work with you to ensure you have a proper-fitting gown in time for your session, as long as you give them a bit of notice.
   
3. It’s a special occasion and you deserve to feel fancy!
   It’s not every day you get to celebrate that little miracle growing inside you with a photoshoot that’s all about you! Once babe arrives your priorities will shift for a while, so take the time now to pamper yourself and go all out for your maternity session! There’s something that happens psychologically when we dress up – your confidence radiates and you’ll feel like a goddess and that will definitely show through in your photos. So rent the gown, get your hair and makeup done, and book a fancy dinner with your partner after your session, because you’re going to want to take full advantage of this occassion!
